Animal Sounds in Japanese: Free Beginner Quiz

Try New Japanese Quizzes Every Day—Free for Everyone!

Here's a free beginner Japanese quiz from the expert teachers at Nihongo-Pro. New quizzes are available every day at several skill levels. Take the Nihongo-Pro quiz challenge every day, from your PC, Mac, smartphone, iPad, iPod, or tablet, and learn Japanese online for free!

Do you know what different animals sound like in Japanese?

Everyone knows that, in English, cows go muu, but what about Japanese? Shouldn't these sounds be the same in English and Japanese?

Maybe they should be the same, but they definitely are not! As you go through this free quiz, you might be surprised at the Japanese sounds. Then again, if you stop a moment and think about the Japanese sounds, most of them are actually closer to the animal's real sound. (Hint: A cow doesn't really sound like English's muu.)

This quiz won't help you study for the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test), and you can probably make your way in Japan without ever knowing animal sounds. But, you gotta admit, this is fun stuff! Take a break, and try this fun, free Japanese quiz.
